Louisville’s The Courier-Journal has long published cartoonist Hugh Haynie’s Christ-themed cartoon on Christmas Eve. The work has been gracing the op-ed page every year since 1961. Long a personal favorite, for years I wasn’t aware the cartoon was originally rejected by The Atlanta Journal in 1955 for fear the editorial would offend advertisers. As The Courier-Journal rightfully notes, the holiday work’s popularity endures. Merry Christmas!
